3D Kalachakra Mandala Hologram
This three-dimensional mandala is the Kalachakra Mandala.According to Tibetan Buddhism, one can achieve enlightenment in this lifetime through the practice of Kalachakra yogic meditation. The Kalachakra Mandala represents the Circle of Time in which three levels of time are recognized:External Circle of Time – weeks, days, and years, composed of the four essential elements of the Universe – earth, water, fire, and wind.Internal Circle of Time – inside all sentient beings, also composed of the same four elements.Kalachakra Circle of Time – an alternative time of consciousness, where the body, speech, and mind are purified, and where one experiences unity between Internal and External Time, and a oneness with the Universe. This Kalachakra Manadala provides a visual aid for the meditator. The Mandala has four levels; each is a temple. At the top is the temple of the Kalachakra Deity. The other three levels represent the thought, speech, and action of the Deity. Circling the temple are 722 Deities (protectors and guides) which are the emanations of the Kalachakra Deity; these Deities are represented by photos or Sanskrit letters. Surrounding this temple structure, the blissful home of the Deities, are representations of the four elements, from inside outward – earth, water, fire, and wind. Around the four elements is space. Beyond space is the outermost ring of light representing consciousness. This deep awareness reflects primordial mind, the basis from which the other elements manifest and on which they rest. This Kalachakra Mandala is about 6 1/2 feet in diameter and 3 feet high. It was designed in strict accordance with measurements detailed in scripture. Materials used in the construction include mahogany wood, glass beads, colored threads and ribbons, copper, brass, and treasures of jade, gold, silver, coral, and turquoise. Each intricate piece was built by hand – bead by bead, thread by thread – designed by Arjia Rinpoche and built by Rinpoche and 4 other Tibetans who worked ten to twelve hours a day for seven months. Throughout its design and building, its creators have offered deep intentions for world peace and for health and happiness for all sentient beings. The Mandala is imbued with prayers for freedom for Tibet and for the good health and long life of Tenzin Gyatso, the fourteenth Dalai Lama. This 3 Dimensional Kalachakra Mandala was offered in expression of reverence and appreciation to His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. It was presented to him at the Kalachakra Empowerment in Bloomington, Indiana, in August of 1999.
